PlayInsight Studios at Gamescom 2024: A Major Milestone for Scrappy and Our Studio

Gamescom, the world’s largest gaming fair, was an incredible experience for us at PlayInsight Studios this year! Thanks to the support from the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung (MDM), we had the amazing opportunity to exhibit our game in development, Scrappy, on the business day of the fair. A huge thanks to MDM for making this possible!
The excitement began on August 20, when we attended the highly anticipated Opening Night Live. The atmosphere was electric as new and upcoming games were unveiled, setting the tone for an unforgettable week of gaming. We couldn’t wait for our own exhibition, which was scheduled for the first official day of Gamescom on Wednesday, August 21.

Exhibiting Scrappy: A Day to Remember

On Wednesday, we took our place in the business area at the Saxony booth, where we showcased Scrappy to a variety of people—developers, gamers, potential partners, and politicians. It was an invaluable opportunity for us to meet like-minded individuals and explore potential collaborations for the future.
We made excellent use of our time, getting in contact with publishers and service providers who could assist our studio as we continue to grow. The conversations we had were inspiring, and we’re excited to explore the possibilities that lie ahead for Scrappy and PlayInsight Studios.
The Saxony booth was not only the perfect location for networking but also a great place to refuel. The delicious lunch provided by the friendly catering team was a real treat, and the chance to try out innovative games from fellow developers at the booth was equally enjoyable.

Highlights and Connections

One of the standout moments of our trip was the chance to meet with politicians from Central Germany and Thuringia (e.g. the state secretaries of Saxony and Thuringia). We had the privilege of presenting our work on Scrappy to them and discussing the growing opportunities for game development in our region. The support and interest they showed in our project was motivating and reaffirmed our excitement for the future of PlayInsight Studios.
After spending time in the indie area, packed with an impressive lineup of indie games, we returned home on Friday, August 23, feeling proud of what we had achieved at Gamescom. The connections we made, the feedback we received, and the inspiration we took home will undoubtedly fuel our journey forward.
Overall, our Gamescom 2024 experience was a great accomplishment, and we’re excited to continue working on Scrappy and growing our studio with the insights and partnerships we gained from this incredible event.
